Since studying in the United States in the 1980s, Mr. Dai Qi has dedicated himself to promoting Chinese culture and serving overseas Chinese communities. Over the past three decades, he has not only been a central organizer of cultural and artistic activities in Northern California but also a key pioneer and driving force in the Chinese-language performance industry in the United States.
1980–2002 | Cultivating Community Culture, Laying a Solid Foundation
During his studies, Mr. Dai Qi served as the Chairperson of the Joint Council of Chinese Student Associations across thirteen universities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Later, he became the Vice President of the San Francisco Taiwanese Friendship Association, organizing large-scale community celebrations that attracted thousands of participants annually, injecting vitality into the cultural life of the Chinese community in Northern California.
2003 | Founding American Chinese Box Office Cultural Communication Company, Launching a Performance Legacy
To integrate cultural activity resources, Mr. Dai Qi founded the Northern California Chinese Cultural and Sports Association in 2003, successfully organizing a Chinese sports festival with over 30,000 participants. In the same year, he established American Chinese Box Office Cultural Communication Company, creating the first Chinese-language online ticketing platform in the United States and ushering in a new era of industrialized operations for Chinese-language performances.
2006–2015 | Creating Era-Defining Classic Performances, Achieving Success After Success
2014–2015: Curated the 90th birthday tour of crosstalk master Wu Zhaonan, Liu Xiaoqing’s play “Glorious Beauty,” and the return tour of Lai Shengchuan’s “The Village.” Also presented Kunqu Opera “The Peony Pavilion,” the concert “Sweet Spring of Time,” and the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Anti-Japanese War Gala, among over a hundred spectacular events.
2006: Organized the first U.S. tour of the China National Song and Dance Ensemble in 26 years, with 10 sold-out shows and nearly 40,000 tickets sold, earning high praise from Chen Weiya, Deputy Director of the Olympic Games.
2007–2009: Hosted the CCTV “Same Song in San Francisco” concert, collaborating seamlessly with Chief Director Meng Xin.
2010–2011: Invested heavily in Jay Chou’s North American tour, attracting over 50,000 attendees and setting a record for the largest Chinese concert in North America. Also introduced the play “The Village” and the variety show “Spring Across the Continents,” both playing to full houses.
2012–2013: Organized the U.S. tour of the Beijing Soul Awakening Disabled Artists Troupe, the “Love of China” National Day Gala, the large-scale acrobatic dramas “Magnolia” and “The Nutcracker,” and the critically acclaimed play “The Face of Chiang Kai-shek” that resonated across the strait.
2016–2019 | Cultural Crossovers and Diverse Themes
2019: Hosted youth-oriented events such as the North American auditions for “The Voice of China” and the “Happy Chinese New Year” Spring Festival Gala, expanding the audience base.
2016: Organized the North American tour of Liu Xiaoqing’s stage play “Empress Wu Zetian,” the 17-show North American tour of the Oriental Song and Dance Ensemble, and produced the musical “Song of the Nation” and the Yu Opera “Cheng Ying Saves the Orphan.”
2017: Launched the original musical epic “Poetic Rhythm of China” and held the 80th Anniversary Commemoration Concert of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident.
2020–2024 | The Pandemic Paused Activities, Awaiting a Restart
During the pandemic, all tours were suspended. However, Mr. Dai Qi never stopped planning and preparing. He continued to cultivate brand resources and Sino-American artistic networks, paving the way for the next wave of performances.
2025 | The Return of a Legend, Reaching New Heights
With the easing of the pandemic, the company resumed operations in 2025, launching multiple high-profile projects. The year began successfully with “Liu Xiaoqing’s San Francisco New Year Book Signing and Meet-and-Greet.” Currently, preparations are underway for performances such as the play “Savoring Memories,” the dance dramas “Mulan” and “The Butterfly Lovers,” and the “50 Years of Taiwanese Folk Songs U.S. Tour.”
